Author: Bell, Currer, Ellis, and Acton Description: iv, 165, [1] pp. (12mo) 6¼x4, later green calf, rebacked with remnants of original spine laid down, red morocco spine label, all edges marbled. First Edition, Second Issue (as usual).First published by Aylott and Jones in 1846 in an edition of 1000 copies. The volume was not commercially successful, with only 39 copies having been distributed and thus extremely rare today. The remaining 961 copies were placed in storage and, following on the success of Charlotte Brontė's Jane Eyre, were purchased and reissued by Smith, Elder, and Co. in October 1848 with a cancel title page but with the date unaltered.
