(Folio) 16¼x12, modern brown half morocco and marbled boards.The first edition of Cowper's treatise on the muscular system was published in 1694 as an octavo volume with only 10 plates. This greatly expanded edition was published posthumously at the expense of the physician Richard Mead. With 67 plates, some after Rubens and Raphael, and its illustrative engraved initials, head- and tail-pieces, this folio edition rates among the more interesting and creative anatomical atlases of the 18th century.
