First Edition.A collection of stories edited by Dickens who wrote the introduction and rewrote his unacted farce, "The lamplighter," later altering the name to "The Lamplighter's Story" and is included here as the first story of Volume I. Eckel states: "George Cruikshank made two and Phiz six of the etchings;" the third volume illustrations, which was made up by Henry Colburn for trade purposes, are from charcoal sketches by J. C.
