Title: Gore Ot Uma
Author: Griboedov, Aleksandr Sergeevich Description: 97, [1] pp. 7½x5¼, original printed wrappers. The second edition, "corrected," of the legally authorized Russian printing of "Woe from Wit," published on May 9th, 1862, following on the first legally authorized edition of March 25th, 1862. This is the great work of Russian diplomat, playwright and composer Alexander Sergeyevich Griboedov (1795-1829), still one on of the most often staged plays in Russia. Only fragments were published during the author's lifetime, and both the first somewhat complete edition of 1833, and the second of 1838, were heavily censored. There were a few uncensored versions published abroad in the 1850's but the two Tiblen editions of 1862 were the first full versions to pass the Russian censor, and both editions are quite scarce. With ownership signature on the front wrapper of Neelov Dmitry Dmitrievich (1819-1890), longtime head of the Russian Department of Agriculture, and a participant in the Polish military campaigns of 1831-32. Heading: Place Published: St. Petersburg Publisher: Nicolay Tiblen Date Published: 1862 Condition reportCreasing and edge wear to wrappers, spine with neat glue repairs, minor staining to contents, small ink notation to title-page, very good
