Author: Clement XI [Giovanni Francesco Albani] (1649-1721) Description: Manuscript Letter Signed "G.F. Card.al Albani". One page, 10x8, on a 4 page folded sheet.Became Pope in 1700. Clement XI was embroiled in European political disputes in connection with the War of Spanish Succession. Recipient unknown. Translation in full: "Most Illustrious Signore, With my other letter, I submitted to Y[our] Most Ill[ustrious] G[race] my displeasure at not being able to serve you in confirming what you desired in the indulgence matter for the Papal Holy Year, there being the obstacle of the Bull suspending such indulgences for this period. It is up to Y. Most Ill. G. to temper my regret by giving me another way of serving you, which I so fervently wish. And in the meantime I kiss your hands."
