Title: Manuscript Document Signed
Author: Innocent XI [Benedetto Odescalchi] (1611-1689) Description: Document Signed "B. Card,le Odescalo Leg.to". One page, 8x11¾".Unusual content regarding the making of a weapon case and the shipment of arms. Pope Innocent X (1644–55) made Odescalchi Cardinal Deacon with the title of Santi Cosma e Damiano. He afterwards became legate to Ferrara. When he was sent to Ferrara in order to assist the people stricken with a severe famine, the Pope introduced him to the people of Ferrara as the "father of the poor." In 1650, Odescalchi became bishop of Novara, in which capacity he spent all the revenues of his see to relieve the poor and sick in his diocese. Innocent XI engaged in a long struggle with Louis XIV; joined the Holy League in 1684 against the Turks and approved the League of Augsburg in 1686.
