Title: Manuscript Note Signed as Pope, Exquisitely Framed
Author: Pius X [Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto] (1835-1914) Description: Autograph Note in French, signed as Pope, in the lower margin of a 12¼x8½ sheet with mounted photograph. Exquisitely matted and framed in a hand-carved, ornate frame with the Coat-of-Arms of Pius X at top.Became Pope in 1903. Pius X was greatly interested in social questions, particularly improving the condition of the poor. He abolished the right of veto at papal elections in 1903, inaugurated reforms in church music, and began revision of ecclesiastical laws (Codex Juris Canonici). His death was hastened by the outbreak of World War I. He condemned theological modernism and revolutionary movements in his encyclical Pascendi (1907), but was a champion of social reforms.
