[BOOKBINDING.] Percy Bysshe Shelley, POSTHUMOUS POEMS, 1st ed.(London: Hunt, 1824) 8vo, in an extravagant binding, reportedly one of the last designs of Francis Sangorski, and executed by the London firm of Sangorski & Sutcliffe: blue morocco, densely tooled and gilt, with colored leather overlay forming a cypher "PBS," the interior of front cover set with miniature portrait of the poet in a tooled leather and vellum frame, studded with amethyst cabochons; the inside back cover similarly treated, but with strapwork in place of the miniature, set with amethysts, moonstones, and turquoise, front and rear flyleaves in brown morocco with green and black overlays, densely tooled; bears bookplate of Henry Clay Frick; with a clamshell case.
Condition reportThe binding Extra Fine. Text lightly toned with widely scattered stains and foxing. Case considerably worn and hurt by moisture. Submit inquiry for further details.
