CIVIL WAR - ELZY, Arnold. Autograph endorsement signed, allowing N. Carrole to "go to the White House." Richmond: 8 April 1863. 2 pp., single sheet recto and verso (240 x 195 mm). Condition: usual folds, chipped along left margin only. confederate document of passport to the white house. The endorsement is written on verso of a document by Confederate Congressmen David Currin and Henry Stewart Foote, which recommends Mr. N. Carrole to "go to the White House to attain a certain sum of lost money and quantity of of provisions formerly contracted." On the verso of the document in Elzy's hand is written "Can pass to White House but not beyond - Arnold Elzy, Maj. Gen." Elzy was wounded shortly after this note at the Seven Days Battle.
