CIVIL WAR - McCOY, Colonel A. J. War-date ledger of the Commissary at Carrollton and Baton Rouge.
Carrollton amd Baton Rouge, LA: June 1862-December 1863. 430 pp., folio (330 x 200 mm). Contemporary half calf over marbled boards. Condition: spine partially perished, boards rubbed, edgewear. pork, hard bread, and coffee: feeding the troops that supported farragut and butler's taking of baton rouge and new orleans. This ledger kept by the Colonel in charge of the Union commissary offers quite detailed dated lists of amounts and types of food and dry goods given to various identified regiments. In addition, the ledger includes goods given or sold to "contrabands employed on canal," the "negro hospital", various U.S. transport ships, prisoners of war, and the Louisiana Penitentiary. An interesting survival of the Union's life in the South.
