Washington, D.C.: Engineer Bureau, United States Department of War, 1865. 2 engraved maps (471 x 310 mm and 300 x 475 mm). Condition: some marginal browning, spotting and curling, diagonal crease on both maps at upper right, tear in second map above Fort Fisher's northern defenses. prepared by the victorious union army immediately following the second battle of fort fisher, North Carolina, on January 15th, 1865, but prior to permanent union occupation on February 22. The fall of the Confederate Fort Fisher, facing the Atlantic coast and guarding the approach to the Cape Fear River, cut the trade route to Wilmington three months before the end of the war.
