JAMES, Frank. Autograph letter signed "Ben" [i.e. his alias Ben Woodson] a love letter to his wife, wishing to see her and mentioning the upcoming trial.
Gallatin, MO: 30 April 1883. 1 page, on a single sheet of ruled paper (220 x 200 mm). Nicely framed. a love letter from outlaw frank james, written while in prison awaiting trial. "I have just been handed your dear letters. I was delighted to hear from and I know you are by far the best woman on earth. Yes it is too bad to be thus separated and I can't stand it any longer. Tis as you say. What is the use of being separated in the difference of a few dollars. I shall make arrangements to get you a place to board soon. So you can get all the things you need and come. You can't come too soon for me. I wish to God you were here now. I had a letter from our friend today. Says he will try to be here at the trial & I have lots to tell you when you come..." Although this letter is from his more well-known years as an outlaw, during the Civil War, Frank and his brother Jesse James served on the Confederate side enlisting with the Missouri State Guard.
