SOUTH CAROLINA - Secession Convention. The Committee on the Constitution ... An ordinance concerning judicial powers. Charleston: 26 December 1860. 3 pp., bifolium (350 x 215 mm). Signed in print by D. L. Wardlaw. Unbound, as issued. Condition: burn marks and minor losses along the fore-edge. a proof? of two ordinances by the secession convention concerning the rule of law. An unusual item, headed with a preface signed in print by D. L. Wardlaw, explaining that two ordinances are here printed: An Ordinance Concerning Judicial Powers and An Ordinance concerning powers lately vested in the Congress of the United States. While the complete text of the first occupies the first leaf, only a small portion of the second appears on the conjugate leaf, stopping mid-sentence, suggesting this copy to be a proof. The Ordinance on judical powers begins by stating "that the judicial power heretofore delegated by this State, so as to form a part of the judicial power of the United States, having reverted to this State, shall be exercised by such courts."ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
