Racine, Wis.: Whitman Publishing Co., 1939. No. 3934. Box of two color lithographed puzzles drawn by Leason. (255 x 215 mm). Condition: box cover lightly tanned at edges. Provenance: Fred M. Meyer Collection. rare complete box of two picture puzzles of the adventure on the raft and the wizard's escape in his balloon. These illustrations originally appeared in The Wizard of Oz Picture Book (Racine, Wis.: Whitmam Publishing Co., 1939). Whitman issued two boxes of puzzles using different Leason pictures. Although the box states that these designs were "based on the Motion Picture The Wizard of Oz Produced and Released by Loew's, Inc.," the drawings bear little resemblance to the characters in the MGM picture. The raft episode was in L. Frank Baum's book but not in the movie.
