Jacob Hand Vanderbilt Signed Document Aboard a Steamboat

JACOB HAND VANDERBILT, Steamboat Manager; Brother of "Commodore" Vanderbilt.
November 10, 1828, Autograph Document Signed, "JH Vanderbilt", in brown ink on thick paper, 4.4" x 8.25", apparently aboard the "Steam Boat Thistle", $1 for "Sweeping Floors", Extremely Fine. Also signed "Rec pay JH Vanderbilt" at the bottom. Docketed "Sweeping Floors $1. 10 Nov," on back. Minor ink ghosting at bottom; slight ink smudging to signatures, but both are quite large, and nice.

Jacob Hand Vanderbilt (1807-1893), Steamboat Manager; Brother of "Commodore" Vanderbilt. By the age of eighteen, Jacob had command of a steamboat and from that time on was a prominent factor in steamboat lines on the Hudson River, Connecticut River and along Long Island Sound. From 1864 - 1884, he served as president of the Staten Island East Shore Railroad as well as other lines.
