5th Regiment of United States Infantry Pewter Button

c. 1798-1802, American Infantry, 5th Regiment, Pewter Button, "UNITED STATES" surrounding a large central "5" design, Very Good.
14 mm. Only about half of the original pewter shank remains, the legends are partially clear, having outer edge chipping, while the central "5" remains clear. This early military button is said to have been excavated at Fort Adams, in the Mississippi Territory and is very scarce, yet affordable.
