Civil War Union Envelopes
Civil War Flags On Two Postally Used Civil War Covers

Group of 2 Postally Used Patriotic Civil War Covers, both with colorful American flags, Very Good and Very Fine.
The first Patriotic Civil War Cover, measuring 3.25" x 5.5," shows a woman standing on the left, wearing a Liberty Cap, holding a sword and an American flag, with a banner across the top reading: "Protect The Union." The 3¢ Washington stamp is tied with a bold, double circle cancellation from Lawrenceberg, Indiana. Aside from some wear along the top and bottom edges, this cover is bright, bold, colorful and in great shape. The second patriotic Civil War Cover, measuring 3.25" x 5.5," has a large red, white and blue Civil War period American flag in the left end, with two lines from "The Star Spangled Banner" below (W2985). The printer's information appears in the lower left corner: "O. J. Dearborn, Main St. Janesville, Wis. - Daily Gazette Print." The 3¢ Washington stamp is tied by a target cancel, and there is a larger, single circle, black cancellation reading: "Janesville - May - 13 - 1861 - Wis." The face of this cover is in nice condition. The two right corners are missing and there is some light soiling at the bottom, and the back has detached from the front. Very Good and attractive.
