Description
Civil War PhotosPhotograph of Civil War Soldier Moses W. Clement
Photograph of Civil War Soldier, Moses W. Clement, Los Angeles, CA, Extremely Fine.
Beautiful matted, sepia-toned photograph of decorated war veteran, Moses W. Clement. The photograph measures 7.25" x 5.3" by sight, and 10.5" x 8" with matting. There is some slight foxing to the photograph, but the image itself is still extremely clear. Seated and staring in the three-quarter pose typical of 19th century portraiture, Clement is decorated with many medals. He was the Captain of the Artillery 22nd Corps in the Department of Washington, and boasts the GAR Past Post Commander Badge, Sons of the American Revolution Medal, and a medal from the General Society of the War of 1812, among others. Clement died on October 22, 1885 in Napa City, CA, making the "Los Angeles, Cal." engraving in the bottom right of photograph extremely rare and scarce.
Clement enlisted on July 5, 1861 in Andover, MA as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was commissioned into "H" Company, Massachusetts' 1st Heavy Artillery. He was then mustered out on October 15, 1864.
