Black History
May 8, 1849, Will and Testament Bequeathing Slaves, Lincoln County, KY, Choice Very Fine. Manuscript Document, 12.25" x 7.5", 4 pages, integral. John S. Wood bequeaths to his wife and children all his property and possessions, to have and hold until and unless they become "dissatisfied" and then they are to receive "not one dollar more" from his estate. His slaves and property are to be sold only if the executors need money to pay off any creditors--or if the slaves become "disobedient." Wood's manuscript is written in black ink, and the recorded documentation is written in brown ink. Toned paper with minor fold splits. Very clean and clear otherwise.
