Clay April 21, 1856, Speech: CONTEST IN KANSAS AND THE PLAN AND PURPOSE OF BLACK REPUBLICANISM of Mr. Clement C. Clay of Alabama, C. Alexander, Printer, Washington, Very Fine. 23-page speech delivered in the Senate of the United States by Mr. Clay of Alabama. 8.75" x 5.75" Mr. Clay was a staunch supporter of the Confederacy. He served in the Senate from 1853-1861, then served in the Confederate Senate when Alabama seceded from the Union. This speech was given in the Senate to debate whether the people of Kansas would be allowed the chance to form a constitution and State Government before they be admitted into the Union. One tear out of the bottom margin and moving into the text on page 17 & 18 and a few small black spots throughout the document are the only imperfections on this piece.
