1858 Speech on the Admission of Kansas To The Union March 17, 1858, Speech: "KANSAS- THE LECOMPTON CONSTITUTION", by Senator John J. Crittenden of Kentucky, C.W. Fenton, Printer, American Office, Washington D.C., Very Fine. 16 pages, 9" x 5.75". "I am not prepared now to offer it: but the effect of it will be to admit Kansas into the Union upon condition that this constitution of hers be submitted to a fair vote of the qualified electors of Kansas to be ratified by them; and if so ratified the President, on information of the fact shall proclaim it a State of the Union without further proceedings". The last two pages of this piece are titled: MR. CRITTENDEN'S REJOINDER TO MR. TOOMBS and appears to be another speech. Entire document is lightly toned and just the remains of a spine are still intact. The print is still very bold and the paper is in excellent condition.
