Textile Map Of The World, 1812
Description
Historic MapsHand-Stitched Textile "Map Of The World"
1812 "Map Of The World" Sampler by Ann Binns of Doncaster, (England), Fine.
13.5" x 23," under glass in an old wooden frame to an overall size of 17" x 27". Heavy (but even) toning throughout, waterstained at lower right. It's unclear whether this was a pre-printed piece of cloth or if Miss Binns hand-inked the entire piece, but she was clearly responsible for the fine stitching that completed the project. From the outlines of the various continents to the embroidered borders to the finely stitched names, this is a piece that goes far beyond the talents usually seen on the quaint samplers of the period. This one must have taken a tremendous amount of time and patience to complete and the quality of the work is superb. This is one of the most incredible and unusual "samplers" we've ever seen!
