50¢ Series 481 This is a very scarce replacement note that is so rare it's unpriced on the Greensheet. It's rough around the edges, but good luck waiting for another. We last sold one of these in March 2002 where it was described as: "In the 1970s, when the replacement survey was started, this was one of the first notes reported by a collector named Stanton. Stanton and Schwan negotiated long and hard on this discovery piece. Two thousand reports later, it was still the only one. It is the plate note in the second, third and fourth editions of the Schwan MPC catalog. Amazingly, in the past few years four additional pieces have been discovered! During those same years, we discovered the multiple printings. The five pieces are split between the first and second printing. The serial number relates that it is from the second printing (672,000-1,240,000). Notice the interesting ending 001; this note is from sheet number 1 of the second printing. Of the 2,500 surveyed replacements, this is the only piece from sheet number 1! Furthermore, the distribution of sheets of all reported pieces is amazingly low: 5, 26 (first printing), 1, 61, 184 (second printing). These amazing numbers indicate extremely low issues for the Series 481 50¢ replacement."
