RARE BLOWN-MOLDED AND PRESSED LACY CANDLESTICK, colorless, Number 2 lacy socket joined by a beehive wafer to a hollow melon-knop stem joined by a four-ring wafer to a short ribbed standard and lacy Acanthus Leaf octagonal base. Boston & Sandwich Glass Co. 1828-1835. 7" high, 4" diameter base overall.
Reference: Published B & K V, fig. 5252. Provenance: The Duff & Molly Allen Collection. Exhibited "Sensational Sandwich," Sandwich Glass Museum, 1995. Jo & Mike Sullivan, 8/17/90 Note: While this lacy base is seen from time to time on whale oil lamps, this is the only instance that I could locate of its use on a candlestick. Barlow and Kaiser describe this as a rarely encountered combination that was not part of the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company's regular production run Condition reportRemarkably proof except for a couple of minor flakes and an open bubble to the lower base
