FREE-BLOWN PEDESTAL INKWELL WITH COVER, aquamarine, compressed globular body with a squared rim, raised on a drawn knop stem and heavy thick foot with rough pontil mark, solid knopped-finial cover with rough pontil mark. Probably New York State, possibly Redwood or Redford . 1840-1870. 5 5/8" high overall, 1 7/8" diameter rim, 3 1/2" diameter foot .

Covill, Jr Note: In James Rose's article, "American Blown Glass in the Seigfred Collection" referenced above, he made special mention of the Seigfred inkwell, noting that it was unpublished and going on to say that "To my knowledge, its form is unique." Rose stated that he had no doubt as to its New York State origin and mentioned Redwood and Redford as strong possible sources. The Seigfred inkwell was subsequently published in 1971 by Covill as fig. 1046, juxtaposed with the example offered here for comparison purposes Condition reportUndamaged except for three minute nicks to the rim
