EARLY THUMBPRINT / ARGUS INKWELL, colorless, pressed base with two rows of thumbprints and rayed underneath, hinged brass mount, cover cut with two rows of thumbprints and star. Bakewell, Pears & Co. and others . 1850-1880. 3 1/4" high, 3 1/2" diameter base .
Provenance: The Duff & Molly Allen Collection. Arman's Absentee, 4/9/91, lot #271, $60
Condition report
Undamaged except for a few minor flakes to the thumbprint edges, and a break to the rim of the lower brass mount near the hinge, which is hidden when the cover is closed
