Stauffer Family Dollhouse from Lancaster, PA

America, ca. 1900. Large Victorian dollhouse originally belonging to the prominent Stauffer family of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. This handsome homemade house and its contents were purchased by the consignor in the 1970s when the contents of the Stauffer Mansion were sold at auction. The dollhouse retains its original furnishings. The exterior is decorated with handpainted brickwork, simple four-paned glazed windows, elegantly grained faux front doors and the flat roof is embellished with a painted balustrade. The interior retains the original antique wallpapers with coordinated papers on the ceilings, polished wood floors and elaborate draperies and portieres. The house is furnished with a large assortment of commercial furniture, mostly German, including Schneegass bedroom and dining room pieces, a German upholstered parlor suite, several nice examples from the firm of Babette Schweizer including a lady's writing desk with asphaltum finish and a stunning fireplace. Many ormolu accessories accent the interior including a three-arm chandelier, double wall sconces with globes and shades, mirrors, framed pictures, inkwell, Greco-Roman Revival table and umbrella stand, a small chair, medicine cabinet, table lamp with globe, cutlery tray with flatware, birdcage as well as numerous gilt metal accessories such as cradles, dressing screens, clock and piano. A nice turn-of-the-century bathroom suite includes an unusual high-tank toilet. Other notable accessories include a delightful Marklin watering can, treenware tea set and toilette set. Five antique German dollhouse dolls populate the house. 44" W, 35" H, 19" D. Excellent (some age cracks on rear wall, some loose pieces of trim, one window glass broken).
