Major model 31x31" made from ORIGINAL PARTS left over from the satellite that was launched. This aluminum model is mounted on an 8" clear Lucite base with a descriptive plaque that reads: "Reproduction of the Satellite Vanguard (1958 Beta 2) launched 17 March 1958, 0716 EST/Project Vanguard/Naval Research Laboratory'. Vertical Lucite pillar has separated from model and square base. This model is identical to, if not the same as, the model that toured the United States with the Smithsonian Institution road show in the 1990s. The show represented American Technological achievement. This satellite, America's answer to Sputnik, fits that bill to a tee. It comes with its own custom fitted wooden case with the same ID plaque on the outside as on the base of the model. Extraordinarily rare."
