This Victoirian peachblow glass marmalade is difficult to attribute, however we believe that several aspects put together indicate a likely lineage, and that is the New England Glass Co. This stunning dish has been examined by noted authors Charles Hajdamach and Dil Heir, both also former chairman of the English Glass Association, and both agreed that this was probably American. Although the temptation is to automatically ID this as Mt. Washington, the following needs to be considered. 98% of Mt Washing ton Peachblow was finished in the acid bath; it is extremely difficult to find a piece in the gloss finish. But perhaps the most compelling piece of evidence is this; virtually 100% of the Mt. Washington Peachblow featured a subtle graduating of hues from the pink upper areas to the soft satin etched bases. To the best of our knowledge, New England Glass was the only American late 19th century manufacturer to have an obvious & uniform point of demarcation between the pink and the neutral gloss bases. New England actually appeared to relish the stark contrast of the pink rings perched above the virgin white bases. We feel that this is one of the truly rare pieces of American art glass.
