BOHEMIAN CUT VASELINE GLASS VASE / PERSIAN HOOKAH

Sign In to see what this sold for

This antique HOOKAH was originally made in Bohemia for the Persian export market. It is a full 12" tall and would have originally had a smoking bowl with hoses attached to the top for use with sweet Persian tobacco. The surface is finely cut, and in itself, that makes the piece rare! However, as a cross collectable, this piece has an addition that has not been documented before in one of these vintage hookahs. In the bottom of the water reservoir, there is a vertical appendage that is vaseline glass with tri-color swirled candy-stripes. There is a bracket about half-way down this appendage. We speculate that the hose was attached to this, as a way to anchor the internal pipe. This water pipe is over 150 years old! There is cutting on the neck, sides and base of this glass. There is minor internal cloudiness from original use and minor wear on the foot. VASELINE GLASS: CANARY TO CONTEMPORARY, by David A. Peterson, copyright 2002 by Antique Publications. See color photos #559 & 746 in that reference. -- part of a collection of art glass to be sold live on eBayLiveAuctions on Oct 5th at 1pm, Andy & Rob Collection.
