CENTRAL GLASS PRESSED DIAMOND VASELINE COVERED BO

Sign In to see what this sold for

This pattern was originally called Pattern #775, and is more commonly referred to as PRESSED DIAMOND. It was made by Central Glass Co., Wheeling, WV and first mention of this pattern was in trade papers on Jan. 1, 1885. This pattern was made in clear, blue, amber and canary (vaseline). A rare 'apple green' (that also glows under a blacklight) is known in a couple of shapes (shaker, open salt). This is an extensive pattern of close to 50 pieces. Please see our other auction lots for additional pieces in this pattern. This lot is for one of the large compotes. The reference does not specify total height and which compote is which, so we can only give dimensions. This covered compote on high foot is 14 1/2" tall and 10 inches in diameter at it's widest point. from the reference, this appears to be the covered bowl, 10", so that is the LARGEST piece in the set. Normal surface wear is is expected on a piece of glass 120 years old. NO breaks, cracks or repairs. Central Glass Company: The First Thirty Years 1863-1893, by Marilyn Hallock, copyright 2002 -- part of a collection of art glass to be sold live on eBayLiveAuctions on Oct 5th at 1pm, Andy & Rob Collection.
