This trio of three vaseline opalescent posey vases are marked ROYAL MAIL STEAM PACKET COMPANY with the company's emblem. The method for applying this was called transfer printing. Most of the badged glassware for shipping lines and hotels were marked this way. The maker is unknown for these little beauties, but it is very similar to the STRAW OPAL color made by Powell. They might also be JOHN WALSH WALSH. According to Hajdamach: "The British and North American Royal Mail Steam Packet Company, to give its' full name, was formed by Samuel Cunard and began operating in 1840." Some of the more famous ships that Cunard launched included the Lusitania and QE2 (Queen Elizabeth 2). BRITISH GLASS 1800-1914, by Charles R. Hajdamach, copyright 1991, pg. 198 -- part of a collection of art glass to be sold live on eBayLiveAuctions on Oct 5th at 1pm, Andy & Rob Collection.
