This is a spectacular English Victorian pottery vase with a master mirror finish and ornate conifer medallion etching. Though we cannot identify the potter, the etching process was by the Guest Brothers ca. 1877 - 1885. See Mr. Godden P. 719 / Appendix G - GUEST BROS."Acid engraved marks occur incorporating the words GUEST BROS. 1877 PATENT. This mark relates to a patent taken out in November 1877 by Edward and Thomas Guest of Kingswinford, Staffordshire, for 'Improvements in Ornamenting surfaces of China, Majolica and Earthenware and other vitreous or semi-vitreous surfaces'. This refers to acid engraved motifs. The Guest Brothers were glass decorators and the wares bearing the above mark would not have been made by them, only decorated by their patent process. These wares were still being advertised in the 1880's".
