There are several pieces of either red-cut-to-vaseline or cobalt-cut-to-vaseline that is being offered in this auction. All of them will have this same description. The consignors of this glass, along with a business partner from Belgium, worked for 3 years to gather together a group of five different glass artisans in the Czech Republic to recreate two-color cut glass in the spirit of the famed designer Joseph Simon of Val St. Lambert, Belgium. Each one of the 5 artisans was a master at his particular task and each piece needed to be rotated from one artisan to the next in order to make the finished product. It was extremely difficult to find a glass house that could make the two-color blanks, and they could only be made the day before a holiday, when the tanks were available (a handful of days per year). These were first presented to the collectors that gathered at the VASELINE GLASS COLLECTORS, INC. convention in Oct. 2005 in Pittsburgh, PA. The glass was still in the original packing crates, having just passed through U.S. customs on the first day of the convention. This was a sample lot to show what could be done. There was less than 30 pieces that made it's way to the convention. There were several shapes available, including tall vases, medium vases, decanters, and large bowls. A few 15" tall goblets sold out and are no longer available. Due to the complications of the logistics, very few additional pieces were made, and it is estimated that less than 50 total (of all shapes made) were created. These pieces are truly a modern collectible that will be handed down from one generation to the next! All pieces in this grouping have a base layer of vaseline glass and all glow under a blacklight. None were marked. Some of the grouping had traditional cutting styles, and some were more modernistic in style. GLOWING REPORT, official publication of the VASELINE GLASS COLLECTORS, INC, Oct. 2005, shows photo of a large grouping of this glass during it's initial offering at the VGCI convention, Oct. 2005 -- part of a collection of art glass to be sold live on eBayLiveAuctions on Oct 5th at 1pm, Andy & Rob Collection.
