Laurel and Hardy Photos and Clippings from the Estate of Lucille Hardy. Lucille Hardy was married to Oliver Hardy from 1940 until his death in 1957. This lot from her estate contains fascinating personal material: 21 typed diary pages on French Line stationery regarding her 1951 voyage with Hardy to Guatemala, eight photographs (various sizes) of the duo on tour, a packet of newspaper clippings with stories on the team's planned comeback and Hardy's illness, a front page headline clipping from the Los Angeles Mirror News announcing Hardy's death, clippings on Hardy's funeral, Los Angeles Herald-Examiner and Times clipping on Laurel's death, her funeral card from Stan Laurel's Forest Lawn memorial service, an L.A. Times clipping on Laurel's funeral, and a wonderful L.A. Times cartoon (February 26, 1965) of Laurel and Hardy as angels after Laurel's death. Also, a 14-page program (with many pictures) from Laurel and Hardy's appearance at the Lido in Paris, a copy of Newsweek (August 19, 1957) with Hardy's obituary and Mrs. Hardy's copy of the 1976 book The Laurel and Hardy Scrapbook, signed by the author, Jack Scagnetti. All material is in Fine to Very Fine condition. The fact that Oliver Hardy's widow personally maintained this collection gives it a special and very touching poignancy.
