In a warm, emotion-laden event, Mickey Mantle bid farewell to his fans on June 9, 1969. The accumulated injuries of his long and remarkable career had at last caught up to him, and he gave his official goodbye. That year's Yankees contract remained unsigned, but was part of the Mantle Yankee saga. This contract was the last available during the historic Mickey Mantle Auction Guernsey's conducted in 2003 on behalf of the Mantle Family.
