Title: Trials and Triumphs of an Orphan Girl : or the Biography of Mrs. Deiadamia Chase, Physician and Phrenologist
Author: L. M. Hammond
Publisher: Van Slyck & Hitchcock
Printing Year: 1859

Condition/Details: Bound in brown blindstamped cloth with gilt lettering on spine, this antique volume is a scarce biography and presentation of the practice of phrenology in earlier part of the eighteenth century. The work is illustrated with frontispiece of Mrs. Chase, and contains in the appendixed text numerous plates depicting the human cranium. These serve as an exemplification of the understanding of that field of study that the personality of a person could be determined from bumps or fissures in the skull . The volume shows external age/wear. Leaf containing preface is detached, otherwise textblock is solidly bound with bright pages. The book measures approximately 5.25" x 7.75" and contains 230 pages plus twenty-page appendix containing O. S. Fowler's "Synopsis of Phrenology". Shipping cost (within the U.S.) for this lot will be: $4.50
