Title: The Letters and Works of Lady Mary Wortley Montagu
Editor: Lord Wharncliffe Publisher: Richard Bentley Printing Year: 1837 Number of Volumes: Complete 3 volume set Notes: Bound in half leather with marbled boards, this antique set is a scarce description. The author was an English aristocrat and writer. Montagu is today chiefly remembered for her letters, particularly her correspondence from Turkey, which have been described by Billie Melman as "the very first example of a secular work by a woman about the Muslim Orient". Each volume is illustrated with frontispiece portraits. The volumes show mild external age/wear, with top 2.5 inches of the spine of first volume detached from back gutter. The set is solidly bound with clean, lightly age toned pages with marbled edges. Antique bookplate is to be found on front endpapers. The books measure approximately 5.75" x 8.75".
