Author: Evans, Henry Description: Two framed linocuts: Iris. 13¼x20¾. 1/93 signed copies. [1971] * Poppy. 20¾x13¼. 1/200 signed copies. [1972]Henry Evans (1918–1990), proprietor of the Porpoise Book Shop and Peregrine Press, began making botanical prints around 1958, depicting some 1400 subjects in 31 years. Self-taught as a botanist, artist and printer, he drew directly from living subjects. He used linoleum as a printing surface and an 1852 Washington Hand Press to make the prints. After printing, the blocks were destroyed.
