Chinese Qing Dynasty Hongmu tachuang louhan bed

The couch bed, a deep low-lying rectangular wooden frame supported on four short legs; having back and side walls while open to the front. The low walls consist of seven detachable panels, four of which are double sided. The carved wood wall panels frame eleven cloisonne rectangles. Composition includes two five-clawed long (dragon) panels, a central fenghuang (phoenix) panel, four long life symbols in red alternating with white flowers together with fu (bat) and peach blossoms. The frame joined by mortise and tenon construction, carved entirely with geometric and natural forms raised on four lion's paw and ball feet. Inscribed to the rear apron of the frame with eight characters reading, "Made by Imperial Commission in the First Year of Jiaqing, Great Qing (Dynasty)" corresponding to the year 1796. 45.5"H x 91"W x 66.5"D, Circa - 19th C.
