John Rasmussen(American, 1828-1895), oil on canvas ''View of the Berks County Almshouse'', the large central birdseye view depicting the Almshouse facilities with figures engaged in various activities, surrounded by five smaller vignettes, signed lower right ''J. Rasmussen 1884'', 33'' x 40''. The Pennsylvania Almshouse views have become true icons of American folk art with this example counted among the finest. Works by Rasmussen can be found in The Reading Public Museum and the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Collection.
