Christian Mertel(Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, 1739-1802), Hanover Township ink and watercolor fraktur dated 1787 for Henrich Gehug with central panel enclosing script and floral vine, surrounded by an angel head, bold castles, and recumbent lions with human faces, 13'' x 16''. For a similar example, see Pennsylvania German Fraktur of Free Library of Philadelphia, plate 46.
Condition reportLosses with restorations along edges. Largest 5" x 3/4" to green building on right edge. Center crease with sporadic small losses. Few restorations within green houses. Sporadic small stains. Not examined out of frame.
