This pitching rubber was the last used in Yankee Stadium before it was remodeled in the 1974. It has a gold color plaque reading: "'This is the last pitching rubber in Yankee Stadium before it was remodeled in 1974' Sparky Lyle". A copy of the following letter accompanies the rubber: "From the desk of Sparky Lyle To whom it may concern, Hello, my name is Sparky Lyle. I am a former major league ballplayer. During 1974 they started to remodel Yankee Stadium. After the construction began I purchased the pitchers mound from the head groundskeeper who had just removed it. This is the very last pitchers mound before the remodling began. Sincerelly (sic) Sparky Lyle. Rubber: 24" x 6" x 6", attached plaque: 5" x 12"
