Davies (Sir John, lawyer and poet, served in Ireland, bap. 1569, d. 1626) [Nosce teipsum]. Of the Soule of Man and the Immortality thereof [& other religious poems],
manuscript poems, in a clear seventeenth century hand, 105pp., n.d. [c. 1670s] together with Dering (Sir Edward, second baronet, politician, served in Ireland, MP and office holder, 1625-84) [Extracts from the bible, under various headings, including: Faith, Hope, Charity including: Love to our Neighbour, Alms Deeds, Chastity etc.,], autograph manuscript, signed "Edward Dering Jan: 28th 1671/2", 61pp., 1670s, reverse entries, ruled in red, very slightly browned, two ink inscriptions at front, earlier inscription: "This book which was in the Library at Scot's Hall [Brabourne, Kent] is given by me to the Rev. Thomas Streatfield this 16th March 1838 Edward Scott", later inscription: "The binding is by Sam. Mearne..." (not by Mearne), 20th century ink signature and bookplate of F. William Cock (who wrote the second inscription), original calf, two-line gilt borders and thistle head corner pieces, worn, upper cover detached, g.e., sm. 4to.

Edward Dering, politician, of Pluckley, Kent. Married Mary, daughter of Daniel Harvey and brother of William Harvey. By marriage he was also related to Heneage Finch, the lawyer and later solicitor-general. Appointed as one of the three commissioners of the Privy Seal (1669-73), and one of the five commissioners of the Treasury (1679-84)..
