third edition, part of vol. 9 of Bentley's Standard Novels series, engraved frontispiece and additional vignette title (foxed), printed title browned, bound with C.B.Brown's 'Edgar Huntly' which formed vol.10 of Bentley's series but lacking Schiller's 'The Ghost Seer' which was split between vol.9 & 10, lacking rear free endpaper, contemporary half green calf, spine gilt but lacking label and a little faded, rather worn, [Sadleir 3734a; Wolff 6280a], 8vo, Henry Colburn and Richard Bentley, 1831.

***The first illustrated edition of Mary Shelley's classic, and with an introduction by her recounting how she came to write the story. There are also some alterations to the text which, in her words, "are principally those of style"..
