***Signed on the front cover by Vanessa Bell's best friend and fellow artist, Margery K. Snowden. She was also an acquaintance of Virginia Woolf and mentioned in the acknowledgments of her book Orlando. Another essay of the same title was published in the Literary Review of the New York Evening Post, 15 November 1923 [Kirkpatrick p.20]..
