1/6 plate daguerreotype. The man in checkered trousers, rolled-up sleeves and a tall cap is likely the photographer. He seems to have just struck a blow, as there is still a slight vibration around the hammer. There is a mysterious red blotch on his arm that seems to have been deliberately applied. Is this suggesting some kind of symbolic wound? There a slight toning of his skin. The plate is still sealed in its oval mat, in a full separated case.
