Condition/Details: Bound in quarter cloth with bright gilt decoration on front board, this volume is a scarce tenth anniversary edition of the author's Pulitzer-winning title. That same year (1983), it obtained the National Book Award, and it was subsequently made into a Oscar-nominated film by Steven Spielberg. It is the first African-American, woman-authored, epistolary novel. The protagonist and narrator of the novel is a young black woman in rural Georgia, who slowly emancipates herself from the poverty, ignorance and abusive relationships of her youth. This book is signed on the title page and contains a new preface by the author. The volume comes in a glassine-covered dustjacket, and is solidly bound with clean pages.
