Condition/Details: Bound in light blue cloth with black lettering to spine, this vintage volume is a scarce account by this social activist who was founder of both the newspaper Catholic Worker in 1933 and the charity organization whose name serves as the title of this book . The paper and the movement it fostered "reflected a radical, anticapitalist perspective rooted in the Bible, Catholic social teaching, and a personalist, communitarian philosophy. Around the newspaper a community emerged combining the "works of mercy"--feeding the hungry and sheltering the homeless in "houses of hospitality"--with direct action on behalf of peace, labor, civil rights, and other causes."
