Condition/Details: Bound in paper wraps with red wrappers showing weeping mother and shivering child on the front, this antique publication is the title for which this poet playwright was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. This is the fairy tale-like story of self-sacrifice by a poverty-stricken mother for her son: "Nothing in the house/But a loaf-end of rye/ and a harp with a woman's head/nobody will buy." The work is illustrated with b&w frontispiece of a drawing of a woman in a rocking chair holding a child in her lap, and with the other 3 tiny vignettes. The volume shows external age/wear, and is bound with clean pages. The book measures approximately 5.5" x 7" and contains approximately 20 pages.
